Metro eTicketing on WhatsApp
Cutting metro ticket booking from 120 seconds to 45, and lifting ad revenue 90% while doing it.

Commuters faced a slow, 15-tap digital ticket flow, so most still queued at cash counters. I reworked the WhatsApp eTicketing & ePass experience for four metro networks (Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Nagpur) to be faster, more profitable, and easy enough to convert counter users.
Context
Booking a ticket meant 15 screen interactions and roughly 120 seconds, slow enough that cash counters stayed the default. The business ran on ad revenue, yet the ticketing interface had no ad placements, and most commuters still queued at counters out of habit, cash preference or low awareness.
The brief spanned three fronts at once: make booking dramatically faster, open up revenue without hurting usability, and pull counter users into digital.

What I designed
Four shipped pieces across speed, revenue and scale, each grounded in how commuters actually behave on the platform.
-

01 / 04
Fast Booking
Reworked the booking flow from 15 interactions down to 8, and added a Fast Booking path that shaves another 3–6 clicks straight to payment.
ImpactBooking in about 45 seconds instead of 120.
-

02 / 04
Revenue-safe ad placements
Mapped the phone’s thumb-reach zones, then placed non-intrusive mobile leaderboard (320×50) and display (320×300) ads only where they wouldn’t fight the booking flow or single-hand reach.
ImpactAbout +90% ad revenue, with no hit to usability.
-

03 / 04
Tickets via Cash
Field research via station promoters found 71% still preferred cash and 21% were simply unaware, so ‘Tickets via Cash’ lets them pay at the counter and still receive a digital ticket on WhatsApp, bringing habitual cash users into the digital flow.
ImpactConverts counter users without forcing a change in how they pay.
-

04 / 04
Flexible component library
Built a flexible, themeable component library so each new metro network gets an on-brand ticketing experience, and sales can spin up an interactive pitch prototype on demand.
ImpactOnboarding cut from 15–20 days to about 3; a pitch-ready prototype in under 24 hours.
